what’s the podcast about?
When feeling scared, we do all types of things to manage the discomfort that comes our way. Who doesn’t feel afraid? Who doesn’t feel anxious? The reality is that fear-based reactions are easily generalizable to many situations, don’t exist in isolation, and affect all of us to a different degree.
Think about it, when we feel afraid, we do feel afraid not only about one thing, but many; our fears travel together -not along, and at times, we do handle them more effectively that others, but wherever we go, we do experience fear. That’s why playing-it-safe actions are the norm and not the exception.
When playing-it-safe, we think over and over about our project, postpone deadlines, procrastinate what we need to do, shoot for perfection, ask others for reassurance, check multiple times what we are doing, or spend hours searching for information, and do many other things to approach a situation with safety crutches.
When playing-it-safe we can also avoid completely a situation, and never faced it.
We all play-it-safe and do what fear pushes us to do many times. It just happens that we haven’t been taught to distinguish when it’s effective to play-it-safe and when it’s a roadblock.
